There’s nothing more rewarding for me than to see tangible, positive change in the world because of our team’s work. I enjoy driving a project to completion and meeting the people who live or work in a facility I helped bring into existence. I feel fortunate to play a part in these outcomes.

Rebecca (Becca) Melaas focuses her practice on a wide range of tax structuring issues that arise in affordable housing and community development projects. She advises clients on federal and state income taxation of corporations, flow-throughs and tax-exempt entities. Becca also represents investors, syndicators, and developers in transactions that use federal and state tax credits and incentives, including low income housing tax credits (LIHTC), new markets tax credits (NMTC), and various energy initiatives.

On the regulatory side of her work, Becca helps clients navigate compliance issues, investor exits, and unwinds. By representing both investors/syndicators and developers in numerous types of transactions, Becca brings to her practice a comprehensive and unique perspective on market trends.

Becca’s ability to synthesize complex concepts into accessible content enhances her effectiveness, both as a communicator and as an advocate for her clients. She believes that collaboration amongst all stakeholders in a deal is key to successfully closing transactions.

In addition to co-chairing the firms tax department, Becca currently co-chairs the firm’s female attorney affinity group and is actively involved in mentoring activities.
