I started at Klein Hornig as a temporary outsourced Controller. From my first day on the job, I felt welcomed and part of the Klein Hornig family. When I was offered a full-time position, I did not have to give my acceptance any thought. Now, I have been with the firm for more than four years. In addition, I really enjoy working for a mission driven firm. The firm tackles very complex transactions, including difficult tax issues. Having a tax background makes it interesting for me to see how these deals play out. I truly learn something new everyday.

Ewell Smith is the Controller at Klein Hornig and has over 28 years experience in the finance industry. He manages the Firms financial & accounting department and assists attorneys and staff with the preparation of monthly/annual financial statements, annual budgeting and data migration across multiple departments.

When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”

– Thomas Edison

Outside of the office, I love to figure out how and why things work. From an early age, I have been intrigued with electricity and mechanics. Currently, I am reading books on how heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems work and the science behind the refrigerants that make cooling possible.

Also, I love volunteering with my daughter’s middle/high school robotics teams, hiking, skiing, glass blowing, home improvement projects, and spending time with my family.
