I love watching my clients’ visions come to life by tracking their projects after the tax credit financing closes. Moving from a tiny town in northern Minnesota to the mountains of North Carolina when I was ten years old showed me the colossal impact that access to affordable housing and community can have on the trajectory of a person’s life. I know that my role in any deal is just a small but critical part of the overall picture and I pride myself on doing excellent work so that my clients can focus on their goals to foster and improve communities.

Affordable housing and community development lawyer Alana Paris provides developers, investors, and syndicators alike valuable advice on leveraging federal and state tax incentives to develop communities in underserved markets. The transactions she works on often involve multiple credit incentives and other subsidies, including low income housing tax credits (LIHTC), new market tax credits (NMTC), historic tax credits (HTC), energy incentives and state credits.

Her passion for research, driven by a strong background in literature, uniquely lends itself to reviewing the often-intricate laws dictating affordable housing and allows her to work through complex issues to help clients understand them in a way that directly benefits their projects. Clients appreciate Alana’s ability to utilize tax structuring to address the practical concerns that often arise throughout a transaction.

I love spending time in the mountains. I'm from Asheville, North Carolina – so spending time in nature is important to me and my literature background insists that wherever I am, there is always a book in tow. You’re most likely to run into me outside of the office adventuring with my dog Kiki, sipping a quality latte, or searching the city for my new favorite restaurant or music venue.
